Downloading Software And Replacing The Control Module

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 12 other vehicles, including the 2014 Volvo XC90, 2013 Volvo XC90, 2012 Volvo XC90, 2011 Volvo XC90, and 2010 Volvo XC90. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

New software can be downloaded into the rear electronic module (REM). When ordering software, the hardware and the software in the car is compared to the information in the Volvo central database. If the comparison is OK the software is downloaded to the control module.

If the comparison between the car and Volvo central database is not OK, the database is updated with the car configuration. When this is complete the software is downloaded.

The control module is mounted in a relay box behind the left-hand cargo compartment panel. To replace the rear electronic module (REM), remove it from the relay box.

For cars with Bi-Xenon lamps, the position sensor for headlamp range adjustment must be calibrated when the control module is replaced. This is carried out in VIDA via the vehicle communication socket.
