System Overview: Introduction
The Forward Sensing Module (FSM) is an electronic system that:
- warns and aids the driver to brake the vehicle in the event of an imminent collision
- warns the driver when he/she is about to leave the lane
- guides the driver, if he/she is about to leave the lane accidentally, by applying steering torque to the steering wheel.
- warns the driver when his/her driving pattern deteriorates.
- informs the driver information module (DIM) about which road signs the vehicle passes.
Parts of the system also make up an addition to the existing cruise control.
The following functions are provided by the Forward Sensing Module (FSM) :
- Collision Warning - warns the driver of a possible collision with the vehicle in front or with pedestrians standing, walking or running in front of the vehicle.
- Auto Brake - brakes the vehicle automatically when a collision with the vehicle ahead or a pedestrian is imminent.
- Brake support - aids the driver, when there is a collision risk, to brake the vehicle when the brake pedal is depressed.
- Distance control helps the driver maintain the distance to the vehicle ahead without affecting the speed of your own vehicle. A fixed light indication in the windshield informs that the time interval to the vehicle ahead is less than the set distance.
- Adaptive cruise control - maintains a time interval to the vehicle ahead when cruise control is activated.
- Lane Departure Warning (LDW) - warns the driver if they (i.e. without indicating) are about to leave the lane/cross the line marking accidentally.
- Lane Keeping Aid - Lane Keeping Aid (LKA) - guides the driver to stay within their lane markings, if they about to leave the lane accidentally, by applying steering torque to the steering wheel.
- Driver Alert Control (DAC) - alerts and warns the driver that their attention, and therefore, their driving pattern, have deteriorated due to fatigue for example.
- Road Sign Information - Road Sign Information (RSI) - informs the driver via the Driver information module (DIM) about which road signs the vehicle passes.
