Side Obstacle Detection Control Module Left (SODL) /Right (SODR) [2014-2017]: Design: System

The two radar control modules are located by the rear wheels under the bumper, Side Obstacle Detection Control Module Left   (SODL) on the left-hand side and Side Obstacle Detection Control Module Right   (SODR) on the right-hand side. The control modules are only found on vehicles equipped with the BLind spot Information System (BLIS).

The Side Obstacle Detection Control Module Left (SODL) and Side Obstacle Detection Control Module Right (SODR) have one connection each. This connection manages CAN signals and connects the control modules to ground and supply voltage.

The information transfer between the Side Obstacle Detection Control Module Left (SODL), Side Obstacle Detection Control Module Right (SODR) and other control modules occurs via the Central Electronic Module (CEM), which acts as the gateway between an extended CAN (Extended CAN) which the radar control modules are positioned on, and MS CAN and HS CAN. The information transfer between the two radar control modules occurs via a local CAN (Local CAN). MS CAN, HS CAN, Extended CAN and Local CAN go under the designation CAN in this document.

The CAN connection is used to receive necessary signals from:

The CAN connection is used to send necessary signals to:

The Lane Change Merge Aid (LCMA) function is activated automatically at speeds above 10 km/h. It is possible to engage/disengage the Lane Change Merge Aid (LCMA) and Cross Traffic Alert (CTA) functions via one of the buttons on the center console on the front display screen. A signal is then sent via the Central Electronic Module (CEM) to the Side Obstacle Detection Control Module Left (SODL) as well as the Side Obstacle Detection Control Module Right (SODR) with a request to engage/disengage the selected function.

NOTE:

Certain combinations of selected equipment do not leave any room for the switch for Lane Change Merge Aid on the center console in the Climate Control Module (CCM). In this instances, the function is managed via the menu on the front display screen.

When reverse gear is engaged, the Lane Change Merge Aid (LCMA) is disengaged while Cross Traffic Alert (CTA) is engaged. When reverse gear is not engaged, Lane Change Merge Aid (LCMA) is engaged while Cross Traffic Alert (CTA) is disengaged.

The system reacts to vehicles in the blind spot if:

There are diagnostics for the Lane Change Merge Aid (LCMA) and Cross Traffic Alert (CTA) functions.

If a trailer is connected to the vehicle electrically, the Lane Change Merge Aid (LCMA) and Cross Traffic Alert (CTA) functions disengage automatically. This is on the condition that the vehicle is equipped with a Trailer Module (TRM) (accessory).

NOTE:

Accessories or other items such as for example, bicycle carriers may not be mounted on the towbar as this can affect the function of the Side Obstacle Detection Control Module Left (SODL) and Side Obstacle Detection Control Module Right (SODR).
