The number of control modules in CAN and in which network the control modules are in varies depending on vehicle model, equipment level and structure week.

for HS-CAN: CEM-U000100, CEM-U000111, CEM-U000112, CEM-U000188,

for Extended CAN: CEM-U003700, CEM-U003711, CEM-U003712, CEM-U003788.

EXPLANATIONS

MS-CAN	=	Network speed 125 kbit/s. In practice contains the control modules that are located in the passenger compartment and in the luggage compartment.
HS CAN	=	Network speed 500 kbit/s. In practice contains the control modules that are located in the engine compartment.
Extended CAN	=	Network speed 125 kbit/s. Contains the control modules for certain optional functions.
Local CAN	=	There are several local CANs, between, for example, Forward Sensing Module (FSM) and Forward Looking Radar (FLR) or Rear Seat Entertainment Module (RSE) as well as between Engine Control Module (ECM) and Transmission Control Module (TCM).
Sensor-CAN	=	Is a local CAN between the Supplemental Restraint System Module (SRS), Brake Control Module (BCM), Engine Control Module (ECM), Closing Velocity Module (CVM) etc.
Slave control module	=	A control module with low computing power which is connected to a "master control module" and which only operates on commands from the master control module.
Accessories	=	Aftermarket installation.
Option	=	Accessories installed at the factory to order, when purchasing a new car.

CEM	Central Electronic Module (CEM) Is the network's master control module and interface between HS-CAN and MS-CAN. The control module has overall function in the electrical system. The control module contains terminating resistors for HS-CAN respectively MS-CAN and Extended CAN.	HS CAN/ MS CAN/ Extended CAN
CPM	Combustion Preheater Module (CPM) Controls the function for the parking heater.	MS-CAN	Option /accessory. Market dependent.
CVM	Closing Velocity Module (CVM) Contains a laser sensor and controls the function for City Safety .	HS CAN Sensor-CAN	Impact protection, automatic braking.
DDM	Driver Door Module (DDM) Controls the functions in the doors on the driver's side and certain functions in the other doors.	MS-CAN	Has the Rear Driver Door Module (RDDM) and Driver Door Switch DDS as LIN slaves.
DEM	Differential Electronic Module (DEM) Controls the engagement of four-wheel drive and communicates with the other control modules on the HS CAN.	HS CAN	Applies to vehicles with all-wheel drive (AWD) only.
DIM	Driver Information Module (DIM) Controls combined instrument panel functions. The control module contains one of the two terminal resistors for MS CAN.	MS-CAN HS CAN
ECM	Engine Control Module (ECM) Controls the engine functions. The control module contains one of two terminal resistors for HS CAN.	HS CAN Local CAN	Different versions depending on the engine alternative.
FLR	Forward Looking Radar (FLR) Identifies obstacles in front.	Local CAN	Slave control module under the Forward Sensing Module (FSM).
FSM	Forward Sensing Module (FSM) Contains a camera and controls the functions for active safety.	HS CAN Local CAN	Option/accessory. Has the slave control module Forward Looking Radar (FLR). Manages functions such as automatic cruise control, pedestrian protection, collision warning, brake assist and auto braking.
ICM	Infotainment Control Module (ICM) Controls the audio and navigation functions. The control module is also the master control module in the MOST network.	MS-CAN (MOST)	For further information regarding the MOST network see appropriate Design and Function information for the MOST network: refer to FAULT MANAGEMENT ON THE MOST NETWORK . This control module is never found together with the Infotainment Head Unit (IHU).
IHU	Infotainment Head Unit (IHU) The control module controls the infotainment functions and is connected to the front display screen.	MS-CAN (MOST)	For further information regarding the MOST network see appropriate Design and Function information for the MOST network: refer to FAULT MANAGEMENT ON THE MOST NETWORK . This control module is never found together with the Infotainment Control Module (ICM) and Integrated Audio Module (IAM).
KVM	Keyless Vehicle Module (KVM) Controls the functions for the keyless entry system.	MS-CAN	Option /accessory.
OWS	Occupant Weight Sensor (OWS)	Sensor-CAN
PAC	Parking Assistance Camera (PAC) Controls the functions for the rear Parking Aid Camera.	MS-CAN Extended CAN	Option /accessory. MS-CAN applies to: S60 (11-), V60 and XC60 with structure week -201345. Extended CAN applies to: S60 (11-), V60 and XC60 with structure week 201346- as well as S60L.
PAM	Parking Assistance Module (PAM) Controls functions for the parking assistance system.	HS CAN	Option /accessory.
PBM	Park Brake Module (PBM)	HS CAN
PDM	Passenger Door Module (PDM) Controls functions in the doors on the passenger side.	MS-CAN	Has the Rear Passenger Door Module (RPDM) as LIN slave.
PHM	Phone Module (PHM) Controls the functions for connecting mobile phone. Part of the infotainment system.	MS CAN (MOST)	Option /accessory. Available in various configurations.
POT	Power Operated Tailgate Module (POT)	MS-CAN	Only found on the XC60. The control module manages the opening of the boot lid.
PSCM	Power Steering Control Module (PSCM) Controls the vehicle's power steering.	HS CAN
PSM	Power Seat Module (PSM) Controls the positions and functions of the driver's seat.	MS-CAN	Option /accessory NOTE: The Power Seat Module (PSM) does not check the seat heating and SIPS (side impact protection system) airbag function.
RDML	Rear Seat Entertainment Display Module Left (RDML)	Local CAN	Option. Slave control module to the Rear Seat Entertainment Module (RSE). Applies only to cars with model year -2014.
RDMR	Rear Seat Entertainment Display Module Right (RDMR)	Local CAN	Option. Slave control module to the Rear Seat Entertainment Module (RSE). Applies only to cars with model year -2014.
SRS	Supplemental Restraint System Module (SRS) Controls the vehicle's collision safety system.	MS-CAN Sensor-CAN	Has the slave module Occupant Weight Sensor (OWS) (only for USA, CDN, MEX), to check if anybody is sitting in the passenger seat.
Steering angle sensor	Steering Angle Sensor Module (SAS) Communicates the position of the steering wheel out onto CAN. Included as part of the stability and traction control function.	HS CAN	Are located in and supplied with power by the Steering Wheel Module (SWM).
SODL	Side Obstacle Detection Control Module Left (SODL) Control the function for Blind Spot Information System BLIS .	Extended CAN	Option /accessory. Controls functions such as Lane Change Merging Aid (LCMA) and Cross Traffic Alert (CTA) .
SODR	Side Obstacle Detection Control Module Right (SODR) Control the function for Blind Spot Information System BLIS .	Extended CAN	Option /accessory. Controls functions such as Lane Change Merging Aid (LCMA) and Cross Traffic Alert (CTA) .
SUM	Suspension Module (SUM)	HS CAN	Manages active chassis, 4C.
TCM	Transmission Control Module (TCM) Controls the function of the automatic transmission.	HS CAN Local CAN	Only on vehicles with automatic gearbox.
TRM	Trailer Module (TRM) Controls the trailer functions.	MS-CAN	Option /accessory. Applies only to cars with a tow hitch.
