Engine/Transmission, Removing: Removal

SAFETY 

CAUTION: Take great care to avoid causing sparks when working on the fuel system. See SAFETY REGULATIONS FOR HANDLING FUEL .

REMOVING COMPONENTS

Remove: 

DRAINING COOLANT 

CAUTION: Avoid skin contact with the coolant. Close the cock.

Position a container under the radiator drain cock.

Drain the coolant.

Remove:

Remove:

Remove: 

REMOVING THE CONNECTOR, CABLE AND CABLE SLEEVE

DISCONNECTING THE CONNECTOR

Remove: 

EXPOSING THE AIR CONDITIONING (A/C) COMPRESSOR

CAUTION: Handle the compressor and its air conditioning (A/C) pipe with care.

REMOVING THE LOWER STEERING SHAFT JOINT

REMOVING COMPONENTS 

Raise the car.

Remove: 

REMOVING THE FRONT SPLASH GUARDS

Remove the tie rod from the wheel spindle. On one side, measure the length of the tie rod in relation to the steering gear housing. Note the measurement.

Remove: 

SEPARATING THE FUEL LINE 

NOTE: Use paper to collect any spilled fuel.

Separate the quick-release connectors for the fuel lines to the engine and engine block heater. Also, see FUEL SYSTEM, QUICK-RELEASE CONNECTORS .

LOWERING THE ENGINE AND THE TRANSMISSION

NOTE: Ensure that the lifting table is centered under the sub-frame for optimal weight distribution. Check that the lifting table is correctly applied against the sub-frame.

Use a post hoist with a lifting table and stud guides.

Secure the lifting table against the sub-frame.

REMOVING THE ENGINE COOLANT HEATER 

Remove:

Remove: 

CAUTION: Ensure that no hoses, wiring or other components catch when the engine and transmission unit are lowered.

Lower the engine and transmission approximately 15 cm  so that the drive shafts describe a horizontal line between the hub and transmission.
