System Overview: Signals

The table below summarizes the input signals to and output signals from the keyless vehicle module (KVM). The signal types are divided into directly connected signals, serial communication and controller area network (CAN) communication. The illustration below displays the same information with the Volvo component designations.

Directly connected:  Directly connected: 
  • Switch by the starter button (3/1), indicates that the starter button is pressed in.
  • Lock sensor left front door (3/273).
  • Unlock sensor left front door (3/273).
  • Lock sensor right front door (3/274).
  • Unlock sensor right front door (3/274).
  • Lock sensor left rear door (3/275).
  • Unlock sensor left rear door (3/275).
  • Lock sensor right rear door (3/276).
  • Unlock sensor right rear door (3/276).
  • Lock button and unlock button for cargo compartment (10/3B).
  • Internal antenna front/middle (16/134-135), for communication with remote key in passenger compartment.
  • Antenna cargo compartment (16/133), for communication with remote key.
  • External antenna left/right rear (3/275-276), for communication with remote key.
  • External antenna rear (16/132), for communication with remote key.
Via serial communication:  Via serial communication: 
  • Remote keyless entry (RKE) receiver (4/119), for receiving data from remote keys.
  • Remote keyless entry (RKE) receiver (4/119), wake-up signal.
  • Remote keyless entry (RKE) (4/119), control commands.
Via Controller Area Network (CAN) communication:  Via Controller Area Network (CAN) communication: 
  • Central electronic module (CEM) (4/56)
  • Infotainment control module (ICM) (3/281) when changing customer parameters.
