CONTROL MODULE
The document describes which versions of infotainment system (Base, Performance, High Performance, High Performance Multimedia, and Premium Sound Multimedia) apply to the different versions of Integrated Audio Module (IAM).

The integrated audio module (IAM) handles functions for:
- Radio reception, AM/FM.
- Radio reception, HD (Hybrid Digital) (market-dependent).
- RDS-reception (Radio Data System) (market-dependent).
- CD-playback.
- DVD-playback (only High performance multimedia and Premium sound multimedia).
- USB/iPod-playback (High performance, High performance multimedia, and Premium sound multimedia).
- Bluetooth (High performance, High performance multimedia, and Premium sound multimedia), used for handsfree telephone and audio streaming (A2DP).
- AUX-playback.
- HDD (only in vehicles equipped with option kit navigation).
- Navigation (only in vehicles equipped with option kit navigation).
- Voice-control (only in vehicles equipped with option kit navigation).
The integrated audio module (IAM) communicates with directly connected components as well as with other control modules and components via the MOST network, which is a fiber-optic communication network.
The integrated audio module (IAM) is a slave module on the MOST network. The infotainment control module (ICM) is the master module.
Integrated Audio Module (IAM) is installed in the centre console.
In order to function in the MOST network, the infotainment control module (ICM) checks that the integrated audio module (IAM) has a correct serial number. If the number is incorrect, the integrated audio module (IAM) does not work. The check is a part in the system for Infotainment Theft Protection (ITP).
The following versions of Integrated Audio Module (IAM) are available:
- Integrated amplifier (Base 2 x 20 W and Performance 4 x 20 W), with integrated radio, CD player, internal amplifier and AUX input (3.5 mm).
- Without integrated amplifier (High performance), with built-in radio, CD-player, USB-port, bluetooth, AUX-input (3.5 mm) and handsfree microphone. The version requires an external amplifier, Audio module (AUD).
- Without integrated amplifier (High performance multimedia and Premium sound multimedia), with built-in radio, DVD-player, USB-port, bluetooth, AUX-input (3.5 mm) and navigation unit (option). The version requires an external amplifier, Audio module (AUD).
RDS reception (Radio Data System) is possible with FM broadcasts (market-dependent). The system is called RBDS (Radio Broadcast Data System) in USA.
There are versions of Integrated Audio Module (IAM) with support for reception of hybrid digital (HD) -radio (High performance, High performance multimedia, and Premium sound multimedia). Presently only applies to USA market.
The Integrated Audio Module (IAM) manages playback of compressed music formats from CD and DVD.
Support available for following formats:
- MP3
- WMA
- aac (High performance, High performance multimedia, and Premium sound multimedia)
The integrated audio module (IAM) can play music via the AUX input.
Integrated Audio Module (IAM) can play music via bluetooth. (does not apply to Performance)
Integrated Audio Module (IAM) has support for playback of music via USB/iPod-connection in the tunnel console (does not apply to Performance).
Support available for following formats:
- MP3
- WMA
- wav (Performance)
- aac (High performance, High performance multimedia, and Premium sound multimedia)
Versions of Integrated Audio Module (IAM) with DVD-player handles playback of compressed video formats from DVD.
Support available for following formats:
- MPEG1 according to Video-CD standard
- MPEG2 according to DVD-Video standard
- MPEG4 (DivX/Xvid) only for file types ".asf", ".avi", and ".divx".
Versions of Integrated Audio Module (IAM) with DVD-player handles playback of compressed video formats via the USB-connection.
Support available for following formats:
- MPEG4 (DivX/Xvid) only for file types ".asf", ".avi", and ".divx".
The speakers mounted in the front and rear doors are connected to the integrated audio module (IAM) (Performance) or an external amplifier, audio module (AUD) (for Base, High Performance, High Performance Multimedia, and Premium Sound Multimedia).

The integrated audio module (IAM) checks executed activations and input/output signals via its integrated diagnostics. If the control module detects a fault, a diagnostic trouble code is generated. Any diagnostic trouble codes are stored in the control module memory. The information can be read via the data link connector in the vehicle.
SIGNALS
The table below summarizes the input signals to and output signals from the Integrated Audio Module (IAM). The signal types are divided into directly connected signals, bluetooth, and MOST-communication. The illustration below displays the same information with the Volvo component designations.
