EPS Symptom Troubleshooting Index

When the vehicle has one of these symptoms, check for a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) with the HDS. If there is no DTC, do the diagnostic procedure for the symptom, in the sequence listed, until you find the cause.

HDS does not communicate with the EPS control unit or the vehicle Troubleshoot the DLC circuit - Refer to: Network Communications Symptom Troubleshooting - F-CAN BUS-OFF (CAN BUS without Connection to CAN Gateway) (3.0L Engine) or Network Communications Symptom Troubleshooting - HDS does not communicate with the vehicle or Network Communications Symptom Troubleshooting - F-CAN Lost Communication (CAN BUS with Connection to CAN Gateway) or Network Communications Symptom Troubleshooting - F-CAN BUS-OFF (CAN BUS without Connection to CAN Gateway) or Network Communications Symptom Troubleshooting - F-CAN Lost Communication (CAN BUS without Connection to CAN Gateway) or Network Communications Symptom Troubleshooting - F-CAN Lost Communication (CAN BUS with Connection to CAN Gateway) (3.0L Engine) or Network Communications Symptom Troubleshooting - B-CAN Lost Communication . Faulty data link cable
EPS indicator does not come on Do the gauge control module self-diagnostic function .  
EPS indicator does not go off
NOTE: If any of the CAN communication failure DTC is indicated in other system, troubleshoot the DTC first.
  • Check for open wire or short wire in the F-CAN circuit;
    • Between the gauge control module and the CAN gateway (IF-CAN_H, IF-CAN_L).
    • Between the EPS control unit and the CAN gateway (VF-CAN B_H, IF-CAN B_L).
  • Check the EPS control unit power circuit (+B_EPS, IG1/IG1_VSA/ABS).
  • Check the EPS control unit ground circuit (GND/PGND).
  • Do the gauge control module self-diagnostic function .
