Selector Mechanism Function Unit

Removing 

-- Move the selector lever into "P".

Vehicles with stationary selector mechanism cover:

-- Remove the selector lever handle. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER HANDLE, WITH STATIONARY SELECTOR MECHANISM COVER .

-- Turn off the ignition.

-- Remove the shift mechanism cover. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER BOOT, SEPARATING FROM SELECTOR LEVER HANDLE, VEHICLES WITH SELECTOR LEVER BOOTS 

Vehicles with a selector lever boot:

-- Remove the selector lever handle. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER HANDLE, WITH SELECTOR LEVER BOOT .

-- Turn off the ignition.

-- Remove selector lever scale illumination bulb -L101-. Refer to Selector Lever Scale Illumination Bulb -L101-, VEHICLES WITH SELECTOR LEVER BOOTS .

All Vehicles: 

-- Move the selector lever into "P".

-- Remove ash tray or storage before selector mechanism. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Separate the electrical connector -A- from the function unit of the selector mechanism to the vehicle wire set.

NOTE:

Ignore -1, B, C- and -arrow-.

Vehicles with a 2.0L TFSI Engine: 

-- Disconnect the connector -1- on the mass airflow (MAF) sensor -G70-.

-- Unclip the air intake connection -front arrows-.

-- Remove the engine cover -rear arrows-.

Vehicles with a TDI CR Engine: 

-- Remove the engine cover -arrows-.

-- Remove the air filter housing. Refer to Removal and Installation .

All Vehicles: 

-- Remove the securing clamps -C-.

-- Move the securing clamps -A- and remove.

-- Press selector lever cable from the transmission shift lever -arrow- and place above.

NOTE:

Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.

Ignore -1, B, D-.

-- Lift the vehicle.

Vehicles with a TFSI Engine: 

-- Remove the nuts -arrows- and pull the right floor cover on the inside slightly downward.

-- Disconnect the connector -1-.

-- Remove the coupling from the bracket -2- and free up the wire to the oxygen sensor after three way catalytic converter -G130-.

All Vehicles: 

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and the front floor panel crossmember.

NOTE:

To prevent damage, the decoupling element on the front exhaust pipe must never be angled more than 10°.

-- Disconnect exhaust system at double clamp -1-.

-- Remove the bracket for the exhaust system -arrows-.

-- Tie the front exhaust pipe to the floor panel.

-- Remove the nuts -1- and -2- and the underbody rear crossmember.

NOTE:

A second technician is needed to help remove the rear section of the exhaust system.

-- Remove the exhaust system from the retaining straps -arrows-.

-- Remove the rear muffler from the retaining straps and remove the rear section of the exhaust system.

-- Remove heat shield behind, to do this, loosen the clips -arrows-.

NOTE:

A second technician is required under the vehicle to remove the selector mechanism function unit.

-- Remove the nuts -arrows- in the vehicle interior.

-- Remove the selector mechanism function unit downward, together with the selector lever cable.

NOTE:

Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.

The selector mechanism function unit can also be replaced without the selector lever cable; to do this, disconnect the selector lever cable from the selector mechanism function unit and remove it. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER CABLE .

Installation 

Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:

NOTE:

Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.

-- Install heat shield and CW coverings for underbody. Refer to Removal and Installation

-- Install the exhaust system free of tension. Refer to [For engine(s) CBRA] EXHAUST SYSTEM, INSTALLING , or refer to [For engine(s) BPY] DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION , or refer to [For engine(s) CCTA, CBFA] DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION .

-- Install ash tray or storage before selector mechanism. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Install the selector mechanism cover. Refer to STATIONARY SELECTOR MECHANISM COVER .

-- Install selector lever scale illumination bulb. Refer to Selector Lever Scale Illumination Bulb -L101-, VEHICLES WITH SELECTOR LEVER BOOTS .

-- Install the selector lever handle: Vehicles with fixed covering for selector mechanism. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER HANDLE, WITH STATIONARY SELECTOR MECHANISM COVER , vehicles with selector lever boot SELECTOR LEVER HANDLE, WITH SELECTOR LEVER BOOT .

-- Refer to IGNITION KEY LOCK, CHECKING .

-- Refer to SELECTOR LEVER CABLE, CHECK AND ADJUST IF NECESSARY .

-- Refer to SELECTOR MECHANISM, CHECKING .

-- Install the air filter housing. Refer to Removal and Installation or [For engine(s) BPY] ENGINE COVER WITH AIR FILTER ELEMENT , or refer to [For engine(s) CCTA, CBFA] REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION , or refer to [For engine(s) CBRA] REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
