Night Vision System, Calibrating
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Wheel Alignment Computer approved by VW/Audi
- Vehicle Diagnostic Tester
- Calibration Tool - Linear Laser: VAS6350/3A
- Setting Device - Basic Set: VAS6430/1 or Setting Device - Basic Set: VAS6430/1A
- Night Vision Calibration Tool: VAS6430/6
- Adapter VAS6430/9 : VAS6430/9 , only for surface mounted hoist with a dimension greater than 300 mm.
There are two choices for calibrating:
The "complete alignment"
This procedure must be selected for the following activities if a wheel alignment and calibration should be performed.
- The rear axle toe was adjusted.
- The vehicle suspension was changed, for example changing from standard to sport suspension.
"Quick Start"
This procedure must be selected for the following activities if only the calibration procedure will be performed.
- The Night Vision System Camera -R212- was removed and installed or replaced.
- The bumper or radiator grille was removed and installed or replaced.
TIP:
Both procedures are programmed in the wheel alignment computer. The respective procedure is performed automatically. It is only necessary to select the appropriate program for the procedure that will be performed.
If only the night vision system should be calibrated, select the "quick start" mode on the wheel alignment computer.
The procedure in the "quick access" mode is described in the following.
Procedure
The procedure is described on a : VAS6331 .
The procedure may vary if using other wheel alignment computers. In this case, follow the instructions on the wheel alignment computer screen.
- Note the test requirements. Refer to the appropriate Service Information .
- Follow the measurement preparations for calibrating/adjusting the driver assistance systems. Refer to MEASUREMENT PREPARATIONS .
- Connect the battery charger for the battery support mode. Refer to BATTERY, CHARGING .
-- Check if the Night Vision System Camera -R212- fits correctly in the bracket and the viewing range for the camera is not blocked.
-- Check if the protective window on the Night Vision System Camera -R212- is damaged by a stone impact and replace if necessary. Refer to Removing - Protective Window, Removing .
-- Adjust to standard vehicle height and lock at that height. Refer to Air suspension .
-- Check the DTC memory for the Night Vision System Camera - R212-. Correct all displayed entries.
-- Move the wheels so that they are in a straight-ahead position.
-- Install quick-action clamps on the wheels.
-- Attach the reflectors to the quick-action clamps.
-- Perform the wheel run-out compensation. Refer to WHEEL RUN-OUT COMPENSATION .
- The Setting Device must not be moved on the calibration beam.
-- Select the button for the night vision system camera calibration procedure on the wheel alignment computer.
-- Position the : VAS6430/6 so that it is centered on the calibration beam on the : VAS6430/1 .
-- When sliding the : VAS6430/6 onto the calibration beam, the opening -arrows- must fit around the nut or bolt -A-.
-- Fold open the left and right bracket -A-.
-- Tighten the right and left clamping screws -1- by hand.
-- Position the : VAS6430/1 with the : VAS6430/6 in front of the vehicle.
-- Position the : VAS6430/6 at distance -A- from the night vision system camera.
- Distance -A- = 120 cm ± 2.5 cm, measured between the : VAS6430/6 and the lens of the Night Vision System Camera - R212-.
-- Attach the sensor for the front wheels to the calibration beam.
- For the next step, the hoist must be located in the lowest level position -A-.
-- Insert the : VAS6350/3 -arrow- into the guide on the Night Vision Calibration Tool: VAS6430/6 and secure it.
-- Switch on the : VAS6350/3 .
-- Align the laser beam by turning the crank on the back of the calibration board until the beam strikes the horizontal center of the camera lens.
TIP:
This will achieve the specified height and the : VAS6350/3 can be switched off.
-- Bring the bubble level -A- into a level position using the adjusting screw -1-.
TIP:
The purpose of adjusting the level -A- is to compensate for uneven ground below the vehicle.
-- Move the : VAS6430 to the side in direction of -B arrows- until the display in the wheel alignment computer is within the tolerance range.
-- Secure the : VAS6430 to prevent it from rolling by lightly tightening the screws -2 and 3-.
-- Turn the fine adjustment screw -1- on the calibration beam until the display on the wheel alignment computer is within the tolerance range.
-- Bring the bubble level -A- into a level position using the adjusting screw -1-.
-- Level the bubble level -B- using the adjusting screw -2-.
-- Switch the : VAS6350/3 on again and check the specified height. Correct the height if necessary.
-- Align the laser beam by turning the crank on the back of the calibration board until the beam strikes the horizontal center of the camera lens.
TIP:
This will achieve the specified height and the : VAS6350/3 can be switched off.
-- Connect the plug -A- for the : VAS6430/6 to the socket.
-- Switch on the switch -B- for the : VAS6430/6 .
- The : VAS6430/6 performs an internal initialization after it is switched on. If it completes successfully with no errors, both LEDs -C- will blink at the same time while an indicator tone sounds. After that, the : VAS6430/6 will be in ready mode, which will be indicated by the green LED blinking slowly.
- Check the bubble levels and adjust if needed.
-- Press the button -A- to activate the heat function.
- An audio signal will indicate that the heat function has been activated. The warm-up phase for the heating element has begun.
- Once the specified temperature is reached, the green LED will stay on.
- The heating elements will switch off automatically after approximately 20 minutes. A intermittent audio signal will sound approximately one minute before the automatic shut-off.
- The shut-off timer can be reset to 20 minutes at any time by pressing the button -A-. An audio signal confirms when the timer is reset.
-- Connect the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.
-- Switch the ignition on.
-- Select and start the Diagnostic operating mode.
-- Select the Test plan tab.
-- Select the Select individual test button and select the following tree structure consecutively:
- Diagnostic-capable systems
- 0084 - Night Vision System Control Module
- 0084 - Night Vision System Control Module functions
- 0084 - Control module, calibrating
-- Start the selected program and follow the instructions on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester display.
-- Switch off the ignition after successful calibration.
-- Disconnect the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester from the data link connector.
-- Disconnect the battery charger. Refer to BATTERY, CHARGING .
