System Check

NOTE: If both transmitters do not operate all system functions, check for a grounded Black/White wire between Vehicle Access Code (VAC) connector and terminal C11 of keyless entry module connector. Check for faulty antenna or coaxial antenna cable. Check for an open circuit in power or ground to keyless entry module. Check for unprogrammed keyless entry module. For location of keyless entry components, see KEYLESS ENTRY COMPONENT LOCATION  table.
  1. Open vehicle windows. With all doors closed and unlocked, gear selector in Park, and key out of ignition, press LOCK button on transmitter.
  2. If doors do not lock, check keyless entry module connector terminal C3 (Red/Black wire) for an open circuit. Check resistance between module connector terminal D15 (Black wire) and ground. One ohm or less resistance should be present. If wires are okay, replace and program keyless entry module.
  3. If doors do lock, determine whether or not theft deterrent system armed. If theft deterrent system armed when button on transmitter was pressed, go to step 5).
  4. If theft deterrent system did not arm when button on transmitter was pressed, check keyless entry module terminal C9 (Light Blue wire) for an open circuit. Check keyless entry module terminal C14 (Pink wire) for voltage with ignition on. If voltage is not present, check fuse and circuit for an open or short circuit to ground. If wires are okay, replace and program keyless entry module.
  5. Press UNLOCK button only once on transmitter. If left front door unlocks, go to step 7). If left front door does not unlock, check for battery voltage at module connector terminal D1 (Red wire). If battery voltage is not present, check for open circuit in Red wire.
  6. If battery voltage is present, connect a fused jumper wire between module connector terminal C16 (Tan wire) and voltage. Left front door lock motor should activate. If not, check Tan wire for a short to ground.
  7. If left front door unlocked in step 5), check if courtesy lights come on when unlock button is pressed. If courtesy lights come on, go to step 9). If courtesy lights do not come on, go to ILLUMINATED ENTRY INOPERATIVE TEST  .
  8. If courtesy lights came on and vehicle is equipped with theft deterrent system that disarmed when UNLOCK button on transmitter was pressed, or vehicle is not equipped with theft deterrent system, go to step 10).
  9. If courtesy lights came on and vehicle is equipped with theft deterrent system that did not disarm when UNLOCK button on transmitter was pressed, check for at least 500 ohms resistance at keyless entry module terminal C8 (Light Green wire). Resistance should be 10 ohms or less with theft deterrent module disconnected and either door lock switch held in unlock position. If resistances are not as indicated, check wiring and switches for an open or short circuit to ground.
  10. If vehicle is not equipped with theft deterrent system, or if theft deterrent system disarmed when unlock button on transmitter was pressed as indicated in step 8), press UNLOCK button on transmitter twice within 1.5 seconds.
  11. If all doors do not unlock, hold either front door lock switch in unlock position. Battery voltage should be present at module terminal C2 (White wire). If not, check White wire for an open circuit.
  12. If all doors do unlock, turn ignition switch to RUN, then OFF position. Close all doors and ensure courtesy lights are off. Press dome light button on transmitter. If courtesy lights come on, go to next step. If courtesy lights do not come on, replace keyless entry module.
  13. If courtesy lights came on in step 12), press trunk release button on transmitter. If trunk lid release operates, go to next step. If trunk lid release does not operate, connect fused jumper between keyless entry module terminal C1 (Black/White wire) and battery voltage. If trunk lid release solenoid does not activate, check wiring for an open circuit.
  14. Close trunk lid. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Press trunk release button on transmitter. If release operates, go to next step. If release does not operate, put transmission in Park. Battery voltage should be present at keyless entry module terminal C13 (Light Green wire). With transmission out of Park, no voltage should be present. If voltages are not to specification, check wiring for an open or short to ground or voltage.
  15. Close trunk lid. Move gear selector out of Park. Press trunk release button on transmitter. If trunk release does not operate, go to step 18).
  16. If trunk release operates, shift transmission to Park. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Battery voltage should be present at keyless entry module connector terminal C13. With gear selector out of Park, no voltage should be present. Go to next step.
  17. Ensure ignition switch is still in RUN position. Battery voltage should be present at keyless entry module connector terminal C14 (Pink wire). With ignition off, zero voltage should be present. If voltages are not to specification, check wiring for an open or short to ground or voltage.
  18. If trunk lid release did not operate in step 15), unlock and close doors. Move gear shift lever to Park position. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Move gear shift lever out of Park position. If all doors did not lock, repeat steps 16) and 17).
  19. If all doors did operate, move shift gear lever to Park. If all doors do not unlock, repeat steps 16) and 17). If all doors do unlock, turn ignition switch to OFF position. Close and lock all doors. Insert key in left door lock cylinder and turn to unlock twice, or hold in unlock position for 1.5 seconds. Repeat procedure for right door. If all doors unlock, system is operating properly.
  20. If all doors do not unlock, connect an ohmmeter between module connector terminal C8 (Light Green wire) and ground. Approximately 500 k/ohms should be present. If not, check Light Green wire and door lock cylinder switches for a short to ground.
  21. Disconnect theft deterrent module. Hold either door lock switch in unlock position. Approximately 10 ohms or less should be present. If not, check Light Green wire and door lock cylinder switches for an open circuit.
