Data Link Communications Diagnostic System Check

  1. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Attempt to communicate with modules applicable to vehicle. If scan tool communicates, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate, go to SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH COMPONENTS  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  2. Access Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) with scan tool. If DTCs are found, go to appropriate diagnostic and repair procedure for appropriate module DTCs were set in. If no DTCs are set, go to next step.
  3. Attempt to communicate with Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM) for air bag. If scan tool communicates, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate, go to SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH SDM  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  4. Attempt to communicate with Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) for ABS. If scan tool communicates, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate, go to SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH EBCM  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  5. Attempt to communicate with Powertrain Control Module (PCM). If scan tool communicates, system is okay at this time. If scan tool does not communicate, go to SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 SERIAL DATA LINE  or SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH UART DATA LINE  under SYSTEM TESTS.
