Cellular Communication Diagnostic System Check

  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below left side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. See Figure . Turn ignition switch to RUN position, with engine off. If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, perform TEST F: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UP  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  2. Turn ignition switch to RUN position, with engine off. Try to establish scan tool communication with Vehicle Interface Unit (VIU). If communication with VIU is established, go to next step. If communication with VIU is not established, perform TEST E: SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  3. Using scan tool, select VIU DISPLAY DTCS function. If scan tool displays any VIU DTCs, go to next step. If scan tool does not display any VIU DTCs, repair cellular phone system as necessary.
  4. If scan tool displays any DTCs that begin with "U", go to next step. If scan tool does not display any DTCs that begin with "U", go to step  6 .
  5. If scan tool does not display DTC U1500, go to next step. If scan tool displays DTC U1500, perform DTC U1500: LOSS OF COMMUNICATION WITH VEHICLE COMMUNICATION UNIT  .
  6. If scan tool does not display DTC B1000, B1004, B1007, or B1009, go to next step. If scan tool displays DTC B1000, B1004, B1007, or B1009, perform appropriate test in accordance with DTC retrieved. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  .
  7. If scan tool displays DTCs P0560 or P0620, see appropriate GENERATORS & REGULATORS article in STARTING & CHARGING SYSTEMS. If scan tool does not display DTCs P0560 or P0620, perform appropriate test in accordance with DTC retrieved. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  .
