Checking Brake Switch Operation - No DTCS
- Turn ignition on with engine off. Connect scan tool to DLC and monitor brake switch input status. Depress and release brake pedal several times. If scan tool displays brake switch PRESSED and RELEASED, system is operating properly at this time. If scan tool does not display brake switch PRESSED and RELEASED, go to next step.
- Ensure no DTCs are set. If any DTCs are set, go to DIAGNOSTIC TESTS and repair before continuing procedure. Start engine and allow to idle. Press speed control ON switch. CRUISE indicator will come on. Using 12-volt test light, backprobe brake switch output circuit at brake switch connector terminal No. 1 (White/Pink wire). Depress and release brake pedal several times. If test light comes on when pedal is released and goes off when pedal is depressed, go to next step. If test light does not come on when pedal is released and does not go off when pedal is depressed, adjust or replace brake switch. See BRAKE SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER-4 under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Turn ignition off. Using 12-volt test light, backprobe brake switch B+ circuit at brake switch connector terminal No. 6 (Pink/Dark Blue wire). If test light comes on and is bright, go to next step. If test light does not come on or is dim, repair open or high resistance in Pink/Dark Blue wire between junction block and brake switch. Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER-4 under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Using 12-volt test light, backprobe brake switch output circuit at PCM connector C2 terminal No. 62 (White/Pink wire). If test light comes on when pedal is released and goes off when pedal is depressed, test is complete. If test light does not come on when pedal is released and does not go off when pedal is depressed, repair open in White/Pink wire between PCM and brake switch. Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER-4 under VERIFICATION TESTS.
