CCD Short To Ground

NOTE: Perform body verification test after each repair. See BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
NOTE: For Breeze, Cirrus and Stratus, begin at step  1. For Sebring Convertible, begin at step  2.
  1. Connect scan tool to DLC. DLC is located above hood release handle on driver's kick panel. Turn ignition on. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO GROUND, go to step  3. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO GROUND, test is complete.
  2. Ensure ignition is off. Connect scan tool to DLC. Backprobe with jumper wire between Data Link Connector (DLC) ground terminals No. 4 (Black/Violet wire) and No. 5 (Black wire). Turn ignition on. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO GROUND, remove jumper wire and go to next step. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO GROUND, repair open in ground wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Transmission Control Module (TCM), if equipped. TCM is located at left front corner of engine compartment, next to power distribution center. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS . Turn ignition on. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO GROUND, go to next step. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO GROUND, replace TCM. See TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE (TCM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM). PCM is located next to air filter housing. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS . Turn ignition on. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO GROUND, go to next step. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO GROUND, replace PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  5. Turn ignition off. Disconnect instrument cluster. Turn ignition on. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO GROUND, go to next step. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO GROUND, replace instrument cluster. See appropriate ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS article.
  6. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Sentry Key Immobilizer Module (SKIM), if equipped. SKIM is located at ignition lock cylinder. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS . Turn ignition on. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO GROUND, go to next step. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO GROUND, replace SKIM. See SENTRY KEY IMMOBILIZER MODULE (SKIM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  7. Turn ignition off. Disconnect CAB. Anti-lock brake controller module is mounted on right inner fender panel of engine compartment. Turn ignition on. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO GROUND, go to next step. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO GROUND, replace CAB. See CONTROLLER ANTI-LOCK BRAKE (CAB)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  8. Turn ignition off and wait 5 minutes. Disconnect Air Bag Control Module (ACM) 13-pin connector. ACM is located under center console. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS . Turn ignition on. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO GROUND, go to next step. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO GROUND, replace ACM. See AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE (ACM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  9. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) 14-pin connector C1. BCM is connected to junction block. Turn ignition on. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO GROUND, go to next step. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO GROUND, go to step  13.
  10. Disconnect BCM 10-pin connector C2. Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and BCM 10-pin connector C2 terminal No. 8 (Black/Light Green wire). See CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Black/Light Green wire.
  11. Disconnect scan tool from DLC. Measure resistance between ground and DLC terminal No. 3 (Violet/Gray wire on Breeze, Cirrus and Stratus and Violet/Brown wire on Sebring Convertible). If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair Violet/Gray or Violet/Brown wire for short to ground.
  12. Measure resistance between ground and DLC terminal No. 11 (White/Dark Green on Breeze, Cirrus and Stratus and White/Dark Blue wire on Sebring Convertible). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair White/Dark Green wire or White/Dark Blue wire for short to ground. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, replace scan tool communication cable or scan tool as necessary.
  13. Turn ignition off. Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and each CCD BUS (+) terminal on BCM 22-pin connector C3. See CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . If resistance of all terminals are 5 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance of any terminals are less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in appropriate circuit.
  14. Measure resistance between ground and each CCD BUS (-) terminal on BCM 22-pin connector C3. See CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . If resistance of any terminals are less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in appropriate circuit. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If resistance of all terminals are 5 ohms or more, replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
