Toe Pattern Measurement
NOTE:
TOE PATTERN PREPARATION
procedures must be performed before toe pattern measurement.
- Position bottle jacks (or equivalent) at rear PLP (gauge) holes and at center of front crossmember.
- Hoist vehicle and remove all wheels.
- Disconnect front and rear stabilizer bar links from lower control arms.
- Remove front and rear coil-over-shock assemblies.
- Install wheels.
- Install suspension height gages and lower vehicle to design height. See DESIGN HEIGHT MEASUREMENT under RIDE HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT. Measure front and rear wheel toe at each wheel at design height and record measurement in degrees on toe pattern graph. See Fig 1 .
- Raise front and rear of vehicle .98" (25 mm) above design height. Measure and record front and rear toe at each wheel.
- Raise front and rear of vehicle 1.97" (50 mm) above design height. Measure and record front and rear toe at each wheel. Return vehicle to design height. Lower front and rear of vehicle .98" (25 mm) below design height. Measure and record front and rear wheel toe at each wheel. Lower front and rear of vehicle 1.97" (50 mm) below design height. Measure and record front and rear wheel toe at each wheel.NOTE: It may not be possible to obtain a wheel toe reading with vehicle lowered 1.97" (50 mm) below design. If not, use readings from other height settings to determine toe pattern arc.NOTE: Design arc and range guidelines (specifications) in dynamic toe pattern graph are for each individual wheel. Recorded measurements plotted on graph should also be drawn in per wheel.
- Plot toe readings for front suspension on toe pattern graph. See Fig 1 . If toe pattern arc is within allotted area, front toe pattern is within limits. If toe pattern is not within allotted area, steering gear must be raised or lowered to achieve proper toe pattern.
- Plot toe readings for rear suspension on toe pattern graph. See Fig 1 . If toe pattern arc is within allotted area, rear toe pattern is within limits. If toe pattern is not within allotted area, inner pivot of toe links must be raised or lowered to achieve proper toe pattern.
