Description & Operation
Power windows are operated by a permanent magnet type electric motor, mounted in each door. A master control switch provides ground to each motor. A circuit breaker is used to protect circuit.
Electric motor operation is changed by reversing electric current flow. The motor operates worm gear in gearbox mounted to electric motor. See Fig 1 . Worm gear rotates pinion gear, which meshes with window regulator.
Three different types of electric window regulators are used: conventional, flexible drive and cable drive. See Fig 2 , Fig 3 or Fig 4 . On conventional regulator, operation of pinion gear rotates sector gear attached to window. On flexible drive regulator, pinion gear meshes with a flexible track attached to window.
