Compass/Mini-Trip Test 5A - CMTC Elapsed Time Inoperative Or Wrong

NOTE: Perform COMPASS/MINI-TRIP TEST 1A  before proceeding. For connector terminal ID, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  and WIRING DIAGRAM. Perform TEST VER-1A  after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting any module connector. Ensure all connectors are clean and tight.
  1. Turn ignition on, engine off. Using scan tool, select ENGINE. If scan tool displays NO RESPONSE, go to TEST 6A  under VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS. If scan tool does not display NO RESPONSE, go to next step.
  2. Using scan tool, read Throttle Position (TP) sensor percent. Observe TP sensor percent while moving throttle. If TP sensor percent does not increase as throttle is opened, TP sensor is not working properly. Repair as required. See the appropriate TESTS W/O CODES in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE section.

If TP sensor percent increases as throttle is opened, go to next step.

  3. Raise and support vehicle. Start engine. Place gear selector in Drive position. Using scan tool, read vehicle speed signal while increasing engine speed. If vehicle speed signal does not increase as throttle is opened, repair vehicle speed sensor circuit. See the appropriate TESTS W/O CODES in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE section (see above). If vehicle speed signal increases as throttle is opened, system is operating properly at this time.
