Bus +/- Signals Open From Sentry Key Immobilizer Module (SKIM)

  1. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select BODY then BODY COMPUTER. Attempt to establish communication with Body Control Module (BCM) and Air Bag Control Module (ACM). If scan tool communicates with BCM and ACM, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with BCM or ACM, go to PCI BUS COMMUNICATIONS FAILURE . Perform SENTRY KEY IMMOBILIZER SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  2. Attempt to establish communication with SKIM. If scan tool does not communicate with SKIM, go to next step. If scan tool communicates with SKIM, test is complete.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect SKIM module connector. See Figure. Using DVOM, measure voltage between SKIM connector terminal No. 1 (Pink wire) and ground. See Fig 1. If voltage is greater than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open in Pink wire between SKIM and junction block. Perform SENTRY KEY IMMOBILIZER SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  4. Using DVOM, measure voltage between SKIM connector terminal No. 3 (Dark Blue/White wire) and ground. If voltage is greater than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open in Dark Blue/White wire between SKIM and junction block. Perform SENTRY KEY IMMOBILIZER SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  5. Using DVOM, measure resistance between SKIM connector terminal No. 2 (Black/Orange wire) and ground. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 10 ohms, repair open in Orange/Black wire between SKIM and ground. Perform SENTRY KEY IMMOBILIZER SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  6. Use Scope Input Cable (CH7058), Cable-To-Probe Adapter (CH7062) and Red and Black test probes. Connect scope input cable to channel one connector on scan tool. Attach Red and Black test probes and cable-to-probe adapter to scope input cable. Select scan tool STANDALONE function. Select LAB SCOPE. Select LIVE. Select 12 VOLT SQUARE WAVE. Press F2 for scope display. Press F2 and use down arrow to select voltage range to 20 volts. Press F2 after selecting 20 volts. Connect Black test probe lead to ground and Red test probe lead to SKIM connector terminal No. 5 (Yellow/Violet wire). Turn ignition on. Observe voltage readings on scan tool. If reading pulses from zero to approximately 7.5 volts, go to next step. If reading is steady at zero volts, repair PCI bus circuit (Yellow/Violet wire) between SKIM and diagnostic junction port. See appropriate wiring diagram in DATA LINK CONNECTORS article in WIRING DIAGRAMS. Perform SENTRY KEY IMMOBILIZER SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  7. Replace SKIM. See SENTRY KEY IMMOBILIZER MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform SENTRY KEY IMMOBILIZER SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
