No Response From Transmission Control Module (TCM)
- Using scan tool, attempt to read transmission DTCs. If scan tool displays NO RESPONSE TO TCM, go to next step. If scan tool does not display NO RESPONSE TO TCM, test is complete.
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select BODY, then BCM. Determine if communication was able to be established. Select BODY, then DOOR MODULES. Determine if communication was able to be established. Select ANTI-LOCK BRAKES. Determine if communication was able to be established. Select BODY, then ELECTRO-MECHANICAL CLUSTER. Determine if communication was able to be established. Select PASSIVE RESTRAINTS, then AIR BAG. Determine if communication was able to be established. If communication is possible with all modules, go to next step. If communication cannot be established with one or more modules, go to PCI BUS COMMUNICATIONS FAILURE . Perform TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Turn ignition off and to LOCK position. Disconnect TCM connectors. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS . Turn ignition on. Connect test light between ground and TCM connector terminal No. 11 (Orange/Dark Blue wire). See Fig 1. If test light illuminates brightly, go to next step. If test light illuminates dim or does not illuminate at all, repair open or high resistance in Orange/Dark Blue wire between TCM and fuse No. 12 (10-amp) located in junction block. Also check for poor connections at junction block and TCM. See Figure. Perform TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Turn ignition off and to LOCK position. Remove starter relay from Power Distribution Center (PDC). See Figure. Turn ignition on. Connect test light between ground and TCM connector terminal No. 8 (Yellow/Red wire). If test light illuminates brightly, go to next step. If test light illuminates dim or does not illuminate at all, repair open or high resistance in Yellow/Red wire between TCM and fuse No. 31 (10-amp) located in junction block. Also check for poor connections at junction block and TCM. Perform TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Turn ignition off and to LOCK position. Connect test light between ground and TCM connector terminal No. 56 (Red/White wire). If test light illuminates brightly, go to next step. If test light illuminates dim or does not illuminate at all, repair open or high resistance in Red/White wire between TCM and fuse No. 5 (30-amp) located in PDC. Also check for poor connections at junction block and PDC. Perform TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Connect test light between battery positive voltage terminal of battery and TCM connector Black/Red wire terminals No. 37, 39, and 57. If test light illuminates brightly, go to next step. If test light illuminates dim or does not illuminate at all, repair open or high resistance in appropriate Black/Red wire between TCM and ground. Also check for poor connection at ground G102 located on lower right side of engine, behind right motor mount. Perform TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Disconnect diagnostic junction port located at base of steering column. See Figure. Measure resistance of Yellow/Violet wire between TCM connector terminal No. 43 and diagnostic junction port connector terminal No. 1. See Figure. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Yellow/Violet wire. Perform TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Replace TCM. See TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
