Seat Belt Indicator Not Operating Properly

  1. Turn ignition on. Mechanical Instrument Cluster (MIC) self-test will begin. If seat belt indicator light illuminates, go to next step. If seat belt indicator light does not illuminate, replace instrument cluster printed circuit board. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  2. If seat belt indicator does not turn off, go to next step. If seat belt indicator turns off after about 4 seconds, system is operating properly at this time. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  3. Turn ignition on. Disconnect seat belt switch connector located under driver's seat. If seat belt indicator does not turn off, go to next step. If seat belt indicator turns off, replace seat belt switch. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  4. Remove MIC from instrument panel. Turn ignition off. Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and seat belt switch connector terminal No. 1 (Light Green/Red wire). Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS. If resistance is less than 1000 ohms, repair short to ground in Light Green/Red wire. If resistance is greater than 1000 ohms, replace instrument cluster printed circuit board. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
