- Using scan tool, select INPUT/OUTPUT. Read LIFTGATE LMP DISABLE status while depressing rear cargo light lens switch on and off. If scan tool displays disable switch toggles with switch activation, go to next step. If scan tool does not display disable switch toggles with switch activation, go to step 7.
- Open liftgate. Using scan tool, select BODY, DOOR MODULES, then INPUT/OUTPUT. Read LIFTGATE SW status. If scan tool does not display CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool displays CLOSED, replace Body Control Module (BCM). See BODY CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Remove rear liftgate trim panel. Disconnect liftgate ajar switch connectors located at each side of liftgate. See Fig 1. Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and liftgate ajar switch connector terminal(s) No. 1 (Black wire). If resistance is less 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, repair open in Black wire(s) between liftgate ajar switch and ground. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Disconnect junction block connector C1. See Figure. Using DVOM, measure resistance of Tan/Black wire between liftgate ajar switch connector terminal(s) No. 2 and junction block connector C1 terminal No. 25. See Figure. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, repair open in Tan/Black wire(s). Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Ensure latch of each liftgate switch is in unlatched position. Using DVOM, measure resistance between terminals on each liftgate ajar switch. If resistance is less than 2 ohms for each switch with switch in unlatched position, go to next step. If resistance is 2 ohms or greater on any switch with switch in unlatched position, replace defective switch. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Using DVOM, backprobe and measure voltage between junction block connector C1 terminal No. 9 (Light Green/Orange wire) and ground while depressing rear cargo light lens switch on and off. See Figure. If voltage is greater than 0.5 volt in either position, go to next step. If voltage is less than 0.5 volt in either position, replace Body Control Module (BCM). See BODY CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Disconnect rear cargo light connector. Using DVOM, measure voltage between rear cargo light connector terminal No. 2 (Light Green/Orange wire) and ground. If voltage is greater than 2 volts, repair short to voltage in Light Green/Orange wire between rear cargo light and junction block. If voltage is less than 2 volts, replace rear cargo light.
