VIN Mismatch
- Using scan tool, erase any Sentry Key Immobilizer Module (SKIM) DTCs. Turn ignition off. Wait 10 seconds and turn ignition on. Recheck for SKIM DTCs. If scan tool displays any SKIM DTCs that were erased, go to next step. If scan tool does not display any SKIM DTCs that were erased, go to step 3.
- Ensure proper VIN has been programmed into Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, select ENGINE. Display stored VIN. If stored VIN matches vehicle VIN, replace Sentry Key Immobilizer Module (SKIM). See SENTRY KEY IMMOBILIZER MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform SENTRY KEY IMMOBILIZER SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS. If stored VIN does not match vehicle VIN, replace PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE VERIFICATION TEST under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform SENTRY KEY IMMOBILIZER SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Turn ignition off. Check SKIM module connector and wiring for faulty connections, broken insulation or damaged terminals. Check for symptom related technical service bulletins. If no problems were found, test is complete. If any problems were found, repair as necessary. Perform SENTRY KEY IMMOBILIZER SYSTEM VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
