Wiper On/Off Relay Shorted High

  1. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, erase BCM DTCs. Turn ignition off, then on. Turn wiper switch to each intermittent position, then low and high speed positions. Read BCM DTCs. If scan tool displays WIPER ON/OFF RELAY SHORTED HIGH, go to next step. If scan tool does not display WIPER ON/OFF RELAY SHORTED HIGH, test is complete. DTC is not present at this time.
  2. Turn ignition off. Remove wiper on/off relay from Power Distribution Center (PDC). See Figure. Using DVOM, measure resistance between relay terminals No. 85 and 86. If resistance is 50 ohms or greater, go to next step. If resistance is less than 50 ohms, replace relay. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  3. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) connector C1. See Figure. Turn ignition on. Using DVOM, measure voltage between ground and BCM connector C1 terminal No. 22 (Red/Violet wire). See Figure. If voltage is less than one volt, go to next step. If voltage is greater than one volt, repair short to voltage in Red/Violet wire. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  4. With wiper on/off relay removed, measure voltage between wiper on/off relay socket terminal No. 85 and ground. If voltage is greater than one volt, replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS. If voltage is less than one volt, test is complete. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
