Remote Keyless Entry Module
NOTE:
Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) module is a radio frequency unit. RKE module is located in mini-dome housing on headliner or in optional overhead console. If problem being diagnosed is an inoperative RKE horn chirp feature, ensure horn chirp feature is enabled. If horn chirp feature is enabled, check horn system. If problem being diagnosed is an inoperative RKE illuminated entry system, ensure courtesy light system is functioning properly.
NOTE:
Perform REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY TRANSMITTER under COMPONENT TESTS before performing following test.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Remove and inspect fuse No. 16 (15-amp) in power distribution center. Power distribution center is located next to battery. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is blown, repair short to ground in Pink wire between Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) module and power distribution center. Replace fuse.
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove RKE module from mini-dome housing on headliner or overhead console. See REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect RKE module harness connector. Check RKE module harness connector and receptacle for loose, corroded or damaged terminals. If connector and receptacle are not okay, repair connector and/or receptacle as necessary. If connector and receptacle are okay, go to next step.
- Check continuity between ground and terminals No. 3 and 9 (both Black wires) at RKE module harness connector. See Fig 1. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open in appropriate Black wire between RKE module and ground point. Ground point is located near glove box light switch.
- Connect negative battery cable. Check voltage between ground and terminal No. 2 (Pink wire) at RKE module harness connector. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open in Pink wire between RKE module and power distribution center.
- If problem being diagnosed is RKE horn chirp feature only, go to step 10. If problem being diagnosed is RKE illuminated entry feature only, go to step 9. If problem being diagnosed is RKE power door locks feature only, go to next step.
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove passenger front door trim panel. See FRONT DOOR TRIM PANEL under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect Passenger's Door Module (PDM) harness connector C2. Check continuity between ground and terminal No. 11 (Light Blue/Red wire) at RKE module harness connector. Check continuity between ground and terminal No. 5 (Dark Blue wire) at RKE module harness connector. See Figure and Fig 1 . If continuity does not exist at any terminal, go to next step. If continuity exists at all terminals, repair short in Light Blue/Red wire and/or Dark Blue wire between RKE module and PDM.
- Check continuity of Light Blue/Red wire between terminal No. 11 at RKE module harness connector and terminal No. 1 at PDM harness connector C2. Check continuity of Dark Blue wire between terminal No. 5 at RKE module harness connector and terminal No. 2 at PDM harness connector C2. If continuity exists at all terminals, go to next step. If continuity does not exist at any terminal, repair open in Dark Blue wire and/or Dark Blue/Pink wire between RKE module and PDM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Check continuity between ground and terminal No. 1 (Yellow wire) at RKE harness connector. With driver's door closed, no continuity should exist. With driver's door open, continuity should exist. If continuity is not as specified, repair open in Yellow wire between RKE module and driver's door ajar switch. If continuity is as specified, replace RKE module. See REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Remove horn relay from junction block. Junction block is located behind right kick panel. Check continuity between ground and terminal No. 10 (Black/Red wire) at RKE module harness connector. If continuity exists, repair short to ground in Black/Red wire between RKE module harness connector and junction block. If continuity does not exist, go to next step.
- Check continuity of Black/Red wire between terminal No. 10 at RKE module harness connector and terminal No. 85 at horn relay harness connector. If continuity exists, replace RKE module. See REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Black/Red wire between RKE module and junction block.
NOTE:
Unlock control circuit wire color changes from Dark Blue to Dark Blue/Pink at in-line harness connector, located in right side kick panel.
