Repair Procedures: Replacement

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2024 Kia K5. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION:
  • When prying with a flat-tip screwdriver or use a prying trim tool, wrap it with protective tape, and apply protective tape around the related parts, to prevent damage.
  1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
  2. Recover the refrigerant with a recovery/recycling/charging station.
  3. When the engine is cool, drain the engine coolant from the radiator.

    G 1.6 T-GDI GAMMA II (Refer to " Replacement And Air Bleeding  " ) 

    G 2.5 T-GDI THETA III (Refer to " Replacement and Air Bleeding  " ) 

  4. Remove the cowl top cover.

    (Refer to " Replacement  ") 

  5. Remove the expansion valve cover (A) by loosening the mounting nut.

    Tightening torque: 

    8.8 - 13.7 N.m (0.9 - 1.4 kgf.m, 6.5 - 10.1 lb-ft)

  6. Remove the expansion valve (A) from the evaporator core by loosening the mounting bolts.

    Tightening torque: 

    8.8 - 13.7 N.m (0.9 - 1.4 kgf.m, 6.5 - 10.1 lb-ft)

    NOTE:
    • Plug or cap the lines immediately after disconnecting them to avoid moisture and dust contamination.
    • When installing, replace with a new O-ring.
  7. Separate the heater hose (A) and (B).

    CAUTION:
    • Engine coolant will run out when the hoses are disconnected; drain it into a clean drip pan. Be sure not to let coolant spill on electrical parts or painted surfaces. If any coolant spills, rinse it off immediately.
  8. Loosen the cowl cross bar mounting bolts.

  9. Remove the front seat assembly.

    (Refer to " Replacement  ") 

  10. Remove the floor console assembly.

    (Refer to " Replacement  ") 

  11. Remove the crash pad center panel.

    (Refer to " Replacement  " ) 

  12. Remove the front pillar trim.

    (Refer to " Replacement  ") 

  13. Remove the cowl side trim.

    (Refer to " Replacement  ") 

  14. Remove the steering column shroud lower panel.

  15. Remove the steering wheel.

    (Refer to " Removal  ") 

  16. Remove the multifunction switch.

    (Refer to " Removal  ") 

  17. Lower the steering column after loosening the mounting bolts.

  18. Remove the accelerator pedal.

    (Refer to " Removal  " ) 

  19. Separate the floor carpet (A) to obtain space for removing the rear heating duct.

  20. Remove the rear heating duct (A).

  21. Disconnect the airbag control module (SRSCM) connector (A).

  22. Disconnect the connector (A) by loosening the front pillar mounting clips.

  23. Disconnect the junction box connectors (A).

  24. Disconnect the multi box connectors (A).

  25. Remove the drain hose (A).

  26. Loosen the lower mounting bolt of the blower unit.

    Tightening torque: 

    3.9 - 5.9 N.m (0.4 - 0.6 kgf.m, 2.9 - 4.3 lb-ft)

  27. Remove the plug holes (A).
  28. Loosen the cowl cross bar side mounting bolts.

  29. Remove the crash pad and heater and blower unit assembly (A) together after loosening the bolts and nuts.

  30. Remove the integrated body control unit.

    (Refer to " Removal  ") 

  31. Remove the heater control unit.

    (Refer to " Replacement  ") 

  32. Remove the surround view monitor (SVM).

    (Refer to " Removal  ") 

  33. Remove the parking collision-avoidance assist (PCA).

    (Refer to " Removal  ") 

  34. Remove the parking collision-avoidance assist (PCA) unit bracket (A) after loosening the bolts and screws.

  35. Disconnect the heater and blower unit connectors and wiring.

    [LH] 

    1. Disconnect the temperature control actuator [LH] (A) and mode control actuator (B) connectors.

    1. Disconnect the auto defogging actuator connector (A).

    2. Disconnect the intake actuator (A), cluster ionizer (B) and temperature control actuator [RH] (C) connectors.

    3. Disconnect the evaporator sensor (a) and power mosfet (B) connectors.

    4. Disconnect the blower motor connector (A).

  36. Remove the heater and blower unit (A) from the crash pad by loosening the mounting nuts, and bolts.

  37. Separate the heater unit (A) and blower unit (B) by loosening the mounting screws.

  38. Install in the reverse order of removal.

    Information 

    • Make sure connectors are connected properly.
