Toe Adjustment: Defender

  1. Roll vehicle backwards and forwards to settle linkage. Install alignment equipment according to manufacturer's instructions. Check toe adjustment. See WHEEL ALIGNMENT SPECIFICATION  table. If toe adjustment is not within specification, go to next step. If toe adjustment is within specification, ensure track rod clamp bolts are tightened to 10 ft. lbs. (14 N.m).
  2. Loosen clamp bolts at both ends of track rod. See Fig 1. Rotate track rod to increase or decrease toe adjustment. When toe adjustment is completed, push vehicle backwards turning steering wheel from side-to-side to settle linkage. Set wheels to a straight-ahead position and push vehicle forward to original position.
  3. Recheck toe adjustment and correct as necessary. Turn steering wheel from lock-to-lock and ensure there is full, unrestricted movement of track rod. Tap the side of the track rod ends to ensure unrestricted movement of track rod. Tighten track rod clamp bolts to 10 ft. lbs. (14 N.m). Road test vehicle over an even surface. Ensure steering wheel alignment is okay and vehicle tracks straight. If steering wheel is not straight, see CENTERING STEERING WHEEL .
