How To Proceed With Troubleshooting

HINT:

Use these procedures to troubleshoot the engine immobilizer system.

The hand-held tester should be used in steps  5,  6 and  8.

1. VEHICLE BROUGHT TO WORKSHOP 
   1. NEXT: Go to next step. 
2. CUSTOMER PROBLEM ANALYSIS CHECK AND SYMPTOM CHECK (See  CUSTOMER PROBLEM ANALYSIS CHECK   ) 
   1. NEXT: Go to next step. 
3. INSPECT BATTERY VOLTAGE 

   Standard: 11 to 14 V 

   If the voltage is below 11 V, recharge or replace the battery before proceeding.

   1. NEXT: Go to next step. 
4. CRANK ENGINE FOR MORE THAN 10 SECONDS 
   1. NEXT: Go to next step. 
5. INSPECT COMMUNICATION FUNCTION OF LARGE-SCALE MULTIPLEX COMMUNICATION SYSTEM (BEAN) 
   1. Use the hand-held tester to check if the Multiplex Communication System (MPX) is functioning normally.

      Result:

      MPX DTC is not output	A
      MPX DTC is output	B

   1. B: Go to MULTIPLEX COMMUNICATION SYSTEM (See  PRECAUTION  ) 
   2. A: Go to next step. 
6. CHECK FOR DTC 
   1. Check for DTCs and note any codes that are output.
   2. Delete the DTC.
   3. Recheck for DTCs. Based on the DTC output in ( a), try to force output of the same SFI system DTC or engine immobilizer system DTC by simulating the symptoms indicated by the DTC.
