How To Proceed With Troubleshooting
HINT:
Use these procedures to troubleshoot the engine immobilizer system.
The hand-held tester should be used in steps 5, 6 and 8.

- INSPECT BATTERY VOLTAGE
Standard: 11 to 14 V
If the voltage is below 11 V, recharge or replace the battery before proceeding.

- CRANK ENGINE FOR MORE THAN 10 SECONDS
- NEXT: Go to next step.
- INSPECT COMMUNICATION FUNCTION OF LARGE-SCALE MULTIPLEX COMMUNICATION SYSTEM (BEAN)
- Use the hand-held tester to check if the Multiplex Communication System (MPX) is functioning normally.
Result:
RESULT REFERENCEResult Proceed to MPX DTC is not output A MPX DTC is output B
- B: Go to MULTIPLEX COMMUNICATION SYSTEM (See PRECAUTION )
- A: Go to next step.
- Use the hand-held tester to check if the Multiplex Communication System (MPX) is functioning normally.
- CHECK FOR DTC
- Check for DTCs and note any codes that are output.
- Delete the DTC.
- Recheck for DTCs. Based on the DTC output in ( a), try to force output of the same SFI system DTC or engine immobilizer system DTC by simulating the symptoms indicated by the DTC.
