Diagnosis System

  1. DESCRIPTION

The hybrid vehicle control ECU controls the function of cruise control system on this vehicle. Data of the cruise control system or DTC can be read through the DLC3 of the vehicle. When trouble occurs with the cruise control system, check that the CRUISE main indicator light turns on and check for DTCs. Therefore, when there seems to be a problem with the cruise control, use the intelligent tester (with CAN VIM) or SST to check and troubleshoot it.

  2. CHECK DLC3
    1. The hybrid vehicle control ECU uses ISO 15765-4 for communication. The terminal arrangement of the DLC3 complies with SAE J1962 and matches the ISO 15765-4 format.

      TERMINAL SPECIFIED CONDITION

Terminal No. (Symbols) Terminal Description Condition Specified Condition
7 (SIL) - 5 (SG) Bus "+" line During transmission Pulse generation
4 (CG) - Body ground Chassis ground Always Below 1 Ω
5 (SG) - Body ground Signal ground Always Below 1 Ω
      16 (BAT) - Body ground Battery positive Always 11 to 14 V
      6 (CANH) -14 (CANL) CAN bus line Power switch OFF(1) 54 to 67 Ω
6 (CANH) - Battery positive HIGH-level CAN bus line Power switch OFF(1) 6 kΩ or higher
      6 (CANH) - 4 (CG) HIGH-level CAN bus line Power switch OFF(1) 200 Ω or higher
14 (CANL) - Battery positive LOW-level CAN bus line Power switch OFF(1) 6 kΩ or higher
      14 (CANL) - 4 (CG) LOW-level CAN bus line Power switch OFF(1) 200 Ω or higher
      (1) Before measuring the resistance, leave the vehicle as is for at least 1 minute and do not operate the power switch, nay other switches or the doors.

If the result is not as specified, the DLC3 may have a malfunction. Repair or replace the harness and connector.

      HINT:

Connect the cable of the intelligent tester (with CAN VIM) to the DLC3, turn the power switch ON (IG) and attempt to use the tester. If the display indicates that a communication error has occurred, there is a problem either with the vehicle or with the tester.

      • If communication is normal when the tester is connected to another vehicle, inspect the DLC3 of the original vehicle.
      • If communication is still not possible when the tester is connected to another vehicle, the problem may be in the tester itself. Consult the Service Department listed in the tester's instruction manual.

  3. CHECK INDICATOR
    1. Turn the power switch ON (IG).

    2. Check that the CRUISE main indicator light illuminates when the cruise control main switch is turned ON, and that the indicator light turns off when the main switch is turned OFF. If the results are not as specified, inspect the CRUISE main indicator light circuit (see INSPECTION PROCEDURE  ).

      HINT:

While driving with cruise control, the hybrid vehicle control ECU activates AUTO CANCEL of the cruise control system when a malfunction in one of the following occurs: vehicle speed sensors, stop light switch or other related parts. When AUTO CANCEL is activated, the CRUISE main indicator light outputs the blinking pattern shown in the illustration. At the same time, data of the malfunction is stored as a DTC.
