General
The vehicle interior of the parked vehicle can be pre-heated or pre-cooled as needed before starting a journey and, depending on the equipment, air quality can be improved.
Auxiliary climate control can be triggered immediately or pre-programmed by entering a departure time. The following control options are available:
- Pre-air conditioning button
- Multimedia system (for pre-programming only)
- Telematics services for hybrid vehicles and electric vehicles (depending on equipment)
Function requirements
- No overvoltage or undervoltage of the high-voltage battery.
- State of charge of high-voltage battery over the minimum charge level.
- Circuit 15 C OFF.
- Pre-entry climate control preset.
- Improve air quality (equipment-specific) adjusted using multimedia control.
Function
Pre-entry climate control via unlocking the vehicle
The goal is to temporarily heat up the driver's side seating area when entering the vehicle or ventilate and cool the area with air from the air vents.
The climate control functions switch on during pre-heating and pre-cooling for up to five minutes.
The pre-entry climate control in the case of unlocking cannot be activated more than three times in succession when the vehicle is parked.
Pre-air conditioning for departure time
The objective is to pre-heat or pre-cool the vehicle interior prior to departure.
The departure time can be set, selected and activated using the multimedia control or telematics services for hybrid vehicles and electric vehicles (equipment-specific).
Up to three departure times can be configured. When the departure time is activated, the LED in the pre-entry climate control button lights up yellow.
The vehicle interior is cooled or heated until the desired temperature in relation to the set departure time has been reached.
The pre-entry climate control is activated beforehand here for a maximum of t = 50 minutes.
If the departure is delayed, the vehicle interior is air-conditioned for a further t = 5 min.
If the vehicle is connected to a power supply, the charging of the high-voltage battery to the specified minimum charge level has priority. Auxiliary climate control at departure time is only activated following this.
If the vehicle is not connected to a power supply and the high-voltage battery is not completely charged, the operating time of the pre-entry climate control may be shortened.
Auxiliary climate control is ended if the vehicle is started or t = 5 min after the selected departure time has expired.
Even where assessment of the freeze frame data means that there is no cooling or heating, the function is started and then switched off again after a period of t = 60 s.
Pre-entry climate control via pre-entry climate control button
The pre-entry climate control can also be switched on after the desired interior temperature has already been reached.
This ensures that the vehicle interior is air-conditioned for up to t = 50 min and the interior temperature is maintained at a constant even during, for example a break in the journey.
Auxiliary climate control is switched on or off using the auxiliary climate control button in the air conditioning control panel.
Using the indicator lamps in the pre-entry climate control button, the current operating condition of the pre-entry climate control is shown:
- Indicator lamp lights up red: Heating is switched on.
- Indicator lamp lights up blue: Cooling is switched on.
- Indicator lamp lights up yellow: Departure time is preselected.
Evaluation
The control of the climate control assesses the following information for operation of the auxiliary climate control at the departure time:
- Interior temperature:
- In the head area
- In the instrument panel area
- Specified temperature on the control of the climate control
- Outside temperature
- Solar radiation
The cooling function is active if the vehicle interior temperature is at least T = 4°C above the set specified temperature or if the lowest-possible specified temperature is set.
The heating function is active if the vehicle interior temperature is at least T = 4°C below the set specified temperature or if the highest-possible specified temperature is set.
Ventilation mode
If the measurement shows that the vehicle interior must be pre-cooled, the control of the climate control activates the following functions:
- Pre-venting for air conditioner housing and air ducts (electric A/C compressor and blower active)
- Seat ventilation for driver's seat (equipment-specific)
The seat ventilation remains switched on even after engine start.
Heating mode
If the measurement shows that the vehicle interior must be heated, the control of the climate control activates the following functions:
- Heat boosting via the high-voltage PTC heater:
The control of the climate control actuates the high-voltage PTC heater. The high voltage PTC heater heats up the coolant. The coolant temperature in the high-voltage PTC heater is recorded by the temperature sensor and read in by the control of the climate control.
If the coolant has reached a temperature of T = 35°C, the climate control system actuates the coolant circulation pump directly. At the same time, it sends the request to switch on the blower motor to the blower regulator, which directly actuates the blower motor.
The coolant circulation pump delivers the coolant from the high voltage PTC heater to the heater core and thus enables heating of the vehicle interior.
- Seat heating for driver's seat (equipment-specific)
- Rear window heater (outside temperature T < 5°C)
The seat heater and rear window heater are actuated a maximum of t = 15 minutes before reaching the departure time.
Improve air quality
To improve air quality in the vehicle, depending on the equipment installed, the ionization function is also started when the pre-entry climate control is started.
The ionization remains switched on even after engine start.
