61 11 ... Replacing wiring harness at front left
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove left front seat. Refer to 52 16 000 REMOVING AND INSTALLING LEFT OR RIGHT FRONT SEAT .
- Disconnect battery negative lead. Refer to 12 00 ... Instructions for disconnecting and connecting battery .
- Remove left front wheel.
- Remove complete front left wheel arch cover. Refer to 51 71 040 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING FRONT LEFT OR RIGHT WHEEL ARCH COVER .
- Remove left intake filter housing. Refer to 13 71 010 REMOVING AND INSTALLING LEFT INTAKE FILTER HOUSING (S62) .
- Remove left high beam headlight. Refer to 63 12 170 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING LEFT OR RIGHT HIGH-BEAM HEADLIGHT .
- Remove trim panel for pedal assembly. Refer to 51 45 185 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING TRIM FOR PEDAL ASSEMBLY .
- Remove left entrance cover strip. Refer to 51 47 000 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING LEFT OR RIGHT ENTRANCE COVER STRIP .
- Remove footwell side trim panel from left A-pillar.
- Remove left additional turn-signal lamp light module. Refer to 63 14 ... REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING LIGHT MODULE FOR LEFT ADDITIONAL TURN SIGNAL LAMP .
Fold back carpet in front area.
Removal:
Subsequent removal of the wiring harness is described separately from installation.
Unwrap operational lead from wiring harness.
Repair faulty lead.
Unwrap optical fiber (2) as illustrated from main wiring harness (1) and remove towards rear to additional turn-signal lamp light module.
Cut through main wiring harness (1) as illustrated with sufficient excess length.
Detach cut-off main wiring harness from engine compartment and remove.

Installation of the wiring harness is described separately from removal.

Notes on assignment of repair connectors:
Refer to DIS under Component and signal information / plug, fan and soldered connectors / connectors from X1... / X18985B - X18986B.
Do not kink additional turn-signal lamp optical fiber when installing.
Procedure:
- Fit all cut leads of main wiring harness with stop parts.
- Pin in leads in accordance with schematic in DIS.
- Strip insulation from cable.
- Crimp stop parts. Refer to 61 13 ... Crimping Micro Power Quadlock contacts (MPQ) and 61 13 ... Crimping Micro Quadlock System contacts (MQS) .
- Connect precrimped leads to corresponding plugs (refer to schematic).
- Follow notes and instructions on installing/removing multiple connector systems. Refer to 61 13 ... Opening plug housings and removing contacts of different plug systems .
- Replace cable ties that have been cut open.
Stick foam pads (1) as illustrated to repair connectors (2).
Secure both repair connectors (2) using cable ties (3) from repair kit.
