Fuel Pump Module: Removal
- Release fuel system pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE . Drain fuel tank. See FUEL TANK DRAINING . Lower fuel tank. See FUEL TANK .
- Disconnect fuel feed and return lines from filter/pressure regulator. Disconnect fuel pump vapor line from fuel tank vent pipe.
- Remove fuel sender retaining ring using Fuel Tank Lock Ring Remover (SA9156E). To prevent bending of sending unit float arm during removal, lift pump module up slightly to disengage the orientation tabs in the tank and rotate module 90° clockwise until fuel lines are facing about 1 o'clock position. Carefully lift fuel pump module from fuel tank. See Figure.
NOTE:
To prevent retainer damage, do not remove retainer using a 12-inch or shorter ratchet/breaker bar.
