Anti-Lock Brake System W/Traction Control System: Description

Anti-Lock Brake (ABS) and Traction Control (TRAC) system consists of ABS/TRAC Electronic Control Unit (ECU), actuator, solenoid relay, motor relay, TRAC OFF switch and speed sensors. See Fig 1.

An ABS warning light, SLIP indicator light and TRAC OFF indicator light is located on the instrument cluster. Indicator lights come on for 3 seconds as a bulb test when ignition is turned on. A primary system check is performed after each engine start and initial vehicle speed exceeds 6 MPH. An ABS actuator noise is heard during this period of time. A clicking noise may occur in engine compartment when engine is started. This noise is the traction control system performing an initial diagnostic check. These noises are normal.

NOTE: For more information on brake system, see DISC & DRUM - FWD CARS article.
