Primary Fuel Pump Module: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Saturn Vue. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove fuel tank. See FUEL TANK  . The primary fuel pump module is the fuel pump that is mounted closest to the fuel tank fill pipe fitting on the fuel tank. See Figure . Disconnect fuel lines from primary fuel pump module.
  2. Disconnect EVAP vent line from primary fuel pump module. Disconnect electrical connector from primary fuel pump module. Using Fuel Tank Lock Ring Remover/Installer (SA9156E), remove fuel pump module retaining ring. See Figure . A 1/2" breaker bar (approximately 18" long) will easily loosen and remove the lock ring.
  3. To prevent bending of the sending unit float arm during removal, lift the pump module up slightly to disengage the orientation tabs in the tank and rotate the module 45 degrees. Remove the fuel pump from fuel tank. Always replace fuel pump module to tank seal ring whenever assembly is removed.
  4. Discard fuel pump module-to-tank seal. If sending unit is not being replaced as well, remove fuel level sender from fuel pump module. See FUEL LEVEL SENDER UNIT & FLOAT  .
