Test 1A: Identifying Vehicle Theft Security System Problems

NOTE: Perform a visual inspection before proceeding.
NOTE: If the problem is that the VTSS indicator lamp flashes constantly with the ignition off, perform Test 3A  .
  1. With the DRB, select "Theft Alarm".
    • If the DRB Screen is blank or reports a bus failure message, refer to appropriate Vehicle Communication (CCD Bus) diagnostic manual.
    • If the DRB displays "No Response", perform Test 2A  .
  2. With the DRB, select "Theft Alarm" and "Monitor Display" to read the vehicle theft security system status. If the VTSS mode is not "Disarmed", perform Test 12A  .
  3. With the DRB, select "Theft Alarm", "Miscellaneous", "Change Mode", and "Diagnostics" to put the theft alarm in diagnostics mode, then follow the directions on the DRB screen.
    • If "Turn Key To ACC Position" does not appear on the screen, perform Test 4A  .
    • If the DRB displays "No Response" after turning the key to the ACC position, perform Test 5A  .
  4. When entering the diagnostics mode, the horn should sound twice, and the park lamps and VTSS indicator lamp should flash.
    • If the horn fails to sound, perform Test 6A  .
    • If the VTSS indicator lamp fails to flash, perform Test 7A  .
    • If the Park lamps fail to flash, perform Test 8A  .
  5. Remove the key from the ignition switch. Perform the following actions: Open and close each door. Push the lock switch on the RKE nob and then the unlock switch. Turn the interior lamps on and off. If the horn does not sound after each action, perform the test indicated:
  6. Turn the ignition to the "ON" position. If the horn fails to sound, perform Test 4A  .
  7. With the DRB, select "Theft Alarm" and "Monitor Display" to read the vehicle theft security system status. If the VTSS mode is not "Disarmed", or engine controller is not "OK to arm/OK to run engine", perform the test indicated below:
    • If the VTSS mode is other than disarmed, perform Test 12A  .
    • If engine controller is "1 No Response/2 No Response", perform Test 13A  .
    • If engine controller is "1 Not OK To Arm VTSS/2 OK To Run Engine", 20 engine starts must be reaches before the system becomes fully operational.
  8. If there is a problem with the remote keyless entry arm/disarm function, perform Test 14A  .
