Information Center Test 5A - Service 4WD Switch Message

NOTE: Perform INFORMATION CENTER TEST 1A  before proceeding. For connector terminal ID, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  and WIRING DIAGRAM and DOOR LOCKS - POWER & KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM article. Perform TEST VER-1A  after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting any module connector. Ensure all connectors are clean and tight.
  1. Monitor information center display while moving transfer case shift selector through each position. Pause 10 seconds between each shift position. If vehicle is equipped with 2WD option, replace Powertrain Control Module (PCM). If vehicle is not equipped with 2WD option, go to next step.
  2. If information center displays SERVICE 4WD SWITCH in any transfer case position, go to next step. If information center does not display SERVICE 4WD SWITCH, go to INFORMATION CENTER TEST 1A  .
  3. If vehicle is equipped with Quadra-Trac, go to INFORMATION CENTER TEST 5B  . If vehicle is not equipped with Quadra-Trac, go to next step.
  4. Remove information center from dash. Do not disconnect harness connector. Ensure information center Red connector is disconnected and Black connector is connected. Place transfer case shifter in Neutral position. Wait 20 seconds. Go to next step.
  5. If information center displays SERVICE 4WD SWITCH, go to INFORMATION CENTER TEST 5C  . If information center does not display SERVICE 4WD SWITCH, go to next step.
  6. Place transfer case shifter in 4WD Part-Time position. Wait 20 seconds. If information center displays SERVICE 4WD SWITCH, go to INFORMATION CENTER TEST 5D  . If information center does not display SERVICE 4WD SWITCH, go to next step.
  7. Place transfer case shifter in 2WD position. Wait 20 seconds. If information center displays SERVICE 4WD SWITCH, go to INFORMATION CENTER TEST 5E  . If information center does not display SERVICE 4WD SWITCH, go to next step.
  8. If transfer case is not equipped with Full-Time 4WD position, system is currently functioning correctly. If transfer case is equipped with Full-Time 4WD position, go to next step.
  9. Place transfer case shifter in Full-Time 4WD position. Wait 20 seconds. If information center displays SERVICE 4WD SWITCH, go to INFORMATION CENTER TEST 5G  . If information center does not display SERVICE 4WD SWITCH, system is currently functioning correctly.
