Windshield Wiper Test 2A - Wipers Not Working At All
NOTE:
Perform WINDSHIELD WIPER TEST 1A
before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification, refer to CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION
. For wiring diagrams, refer to WIRING DIAGRAMS
. Perform, after each repair, VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A - VERIFICATION PROCEDURE
.
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
- Using scan tool, actuate front wiper relay. If wiper motor does not operate in low speed mode, go to next step. If wiper motor operates in low speed mode, go to WINDSHIELD WIPER TEST 2B .
- Using scan tool, stop front wiper low speed actuation. Locate Power Distribution Center (PDC) on left front fender next to battery. Remove and inspect wiper fuse No. 19 (30-amp). See Figure in EXTERIOR LIGHTS TEST 2A. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is open, go to WINDSHIELD WIPER TEST 2C .
- Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage at outside terminal (fused B+) on fuse No. 19 socket. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair or replace PDC.
- Reinstall wiper fuse No. 19. Remove front wiper ON relay from PDC and ensure connector is clean and not damaged. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage at terminal "D" on relay socket. See Figure in EXTERIOR LIGHTS TEST 4A. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair or replace PDC.
- Connect a jumper wire between terminals "B"and "D" on wiper ON relay socket. If wiper motor operates, disconnect jumper wire and go to WINDSHIELD WIPER TEST 2D . If wiper motor does not operate, go to next step.
- Disconnect wiper HI/LO relay, located in PDC. Ensure connector is clean and not damaged. Ensure jumper wire is still connected between terminals "B" and "D" on wiper ON relay. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage at terminal "B" on wiper HI/LO relay socket. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair or replace PDC.
- Disconnect jumper wire from front wiper ON relay socket. Connect a jumper wire between terminal "D" on wiper ON relay socket and terminal No. "E" on wiper HI/LO relay. If wiper motor operates in low speed mode, replace wiper HI/LO relay. If wiper motor does not operate in low speed mode, go to WINDSHIELD WIPER TEST 2E .
