Power Window Test 1A - Identifying Power Window System Problems

NOTE: Perform SYMPTOM ID TEST 1A  before proceeding. For connector terminal ID, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  and WIRING DIAGRAM. See POWER WINDOWS article. Perform TEST VER-1A  after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting any module connector. Ensure all connectors are clean and tight.
  1. Using scan tool, select BODY SYSTEM, then DOOR MODULES. If scan tool displays BUS OPERATIONAL, go to step 2). If scan tool displays NO RESPONSE or any other message, go to TEST 1A  under VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS.
  2. Using scan tool, select READ DTCs. If power window codes are present, go to POWER WINDOW DIAGNOSTIC TEST DIRECTORY  . If no power window codes are present, go to next step.
  3. Using scan tool, select INPUT/OUTPUT. Observe switch status on all windows. If any window switch displays CLOSED with window switch in Neutral position, replace appropriate door module. If okay, go to next step.
  4. Operate each window from driver's door module. If any windows fail to operate, observe scan tool and press appropriate switch up, then down. If any switch fails to change status from OPEN to CLOSED, replace driver's door module. If okay, go to next step.
  5. Press window lockout switch off, then on. If window lockout switch fails to change status from CLOSED to OPEN, replace driver's door module. If window lockout switch is okay, go to next step.
  6. Press driver's window express switch down. If driver's window express switch fails to change status from OPEN to CLOSED, replace driver's door module. If okay, go to next step.
  7. Operate right front window from passenger's door module. If window fails to operate properly, observe scan tool RIGHT RF WIN UP/DN SW and press window switch up and down. If either switch fails to change status from OPEN to CLOSED, replace passenger's door module. Identify problems(s) listed in POWER WINDOW DIAGNOSTIC TEST DIRECTORY and perform indicated test(s).
